　　How to learn English well

　　English is very important for us. Everyone wants to learn it well. Do you know how to learn it well? Here are my ways:

　　Firstly, I listen to the teacher and make notes carefully in class. I review / go over my old lessons and prepare my new lessons after class.

　　Secondly, I like speaking English with my classmates, not only in classroom, but also on the playground. It’s important to improve my spoken English.

　　Thirdly, I keep a diary every day to practise my written English.

　　Besides, I often read English newspapers and magazines in order to enrich my knowledge on English culture.

　　My interest

　　I have a wide range of interests and enjoy doing many things in my free time. I am a lover of reading. I often read in my spare time. I read many kinds of books and newspaper. I like the stories and news in them very much. There are a lot of knowledge and interesting things as well. I am also a music lover. I like all kinds of music. I often listen to the music programmes on radio. Although I can’t sing English songs well, I like them a lot. I like sports as well. I often play badminton after classes in the afternoon. I often run in the morning. When I am doing sports, I forget all my trouble and worry. Of course, sports can also help me in building my body.

　　In short, I enjoy my life here in school. Reading books, listening to music and doing sports are very helpful to my health and my studies.

　　Unforgettable memories

　　How time flies! Three years passed in a blink. Lots of memories left in my head. Teachers, classmates, hard work and above all friendship stay in mind. Looking back, I have gone through either the joy of success or the pains of failure. Teachers are friendly to us in life and always strict with us in study. Classmates and friends help me so much. With their help I’ve made great progress. But I’m a careless boy. And I always make mistakes which can be avoided. Senior middle school life is a new beginning and it gives me a chance to overcome my shortcomings. As it is said, “It is not our abilities that show what we truly are, it is our choice.” The two-month holiday will also provide me the freedom to think over and make up my mind to do it better in the future. And I believe I can do it.

　　My plan for summer holiday

　　The summer holiday is coming. We will have plenty of time to enjoy ourselves. But I think we should plan the time carefully. We had better make a list of all the things we wish to do and try hard to keep a balance between work and play. In the holiday we can do many activities. For example, we can play with friends. We can do different sports. It is also meaningful for us to work as volunteers. Besides, we can do some reading. It can help get us prepared for the new term. I hope all of us will have a wonderful holiday.

　　My good friend

　　I have a good friend. Her name is Susan. She is 14 years old. She’s from America. She’s a tall girl with blue eyes and she has long golden hair. She likes doing sports, especially swimming and running. She enjoys reading books and listening to music. What’s more, she is very interested in Chinese history and culture. So she often reads books about China. She’s lovely and friendly. She gets on well with her friends. She’s also helpful. She often helps me learn English. With her help, I made much progress in English. I’m lucky to have such a good friend.

　　My English teacher

　　Our English Teacher Ms Huang, came to our school two years ago. She has been an English teacher for more than 30 years. She works hard and has been a model teacher for many years. She is kind and friendly to us after class, but she is rather strict with us in class. She always encourages us to speak and read more English. She often says, “Practice makes perfect.” She is good at teaching and tries her best to make every lesson lively and interesting. She often gives us slide shows, teaches us English songs and helps us put on short English plays. She is not only our teacher but also our friend. We all respect and love her. Tomorrow she is going to attend an important meeting, at which she will be given a medal for her advanced deeds.

　　I changed my ways of learning English

　　As an international language, English plays a great character in our life. English has become more and more important to us. Therefore, I changed my way of learning English so that I can improve my English ability.

　　In the past, I didn’t listen to English news often. So I changed it. I began to listen to English songs. And I listened to the words of the song carefully in order to learn more words. Everytime when I met the words which I didn’t know, I would looked it up in the dictionary. And I always tried to remember it after looking it up. After a month, I found that I knew more words than my classmates.

　　I used to write as few words as I could. No doubt, I changed it.With the help of my friends and my teacher, I tried to write more articles. Finally, I succeeded. I took up writing as a hobby and I will never forget it.

　　I’m glad that I changed my way of learning English. And everything I changed will make me more and more interested in English.

　　An unforgettable trip

　　I went to Chongqing in July 22. It is a city which was built near mountains. So people call it Mountain City. In Chongqing, I went to the Red Stone Centre, to see the places which the prisoners lived in the past. It is a terrible and awful trip. There were a lot of dogs, and soldiers with guns near the prisons. And most of the prisoners were good men. They didn’t want to tell the bad people where the other people were. So they were put into the prison. They lived in very small houses. No good food to eat, no good water to drink. They had only twenty minutes to stay outside per day but they still said nothing. I think they are the heroes in that century. I will follow their spirit.

　　My favourite animal

　　My favourite animal is dog. I like it because it can help people in many different ways. Many, many years ago, dogs were already people’s pets. They lived in caves with people. Dogs were very good helpers. They guarded the caves and kept people safe from danger.

　　Nowadays, dogs are also people’s pets. But some people are unkind to their dogs. They do not look after them and leave them in the street. We should be kind to dogs. They are our friends. They can help us do many things. They help the police catch thieves and find missing people. They also help blind people cross the road safely.

　　Online shopping is changing the way of our life

　　As we all know, online shopping has become more and more popular among people especially the young people. We can buy nearly everything on the Internet. In my view, online shopping has already changed the way of our life. People tend to surf the Internet to buy what they need. I think the advantage of online shopping is its convenience. People only sit in the soft and click the mouse at home to buy what they want.  It can save people a lot of time and money. The disadvantage is that online shopping is not always safe. Sometimes your private information will be let out. So if you love online shopping, please be careful with your personal information and the website so that you can benefit from online shopping.

　　My favourite subject

　　English is my favourite subject because English is used widely in the world, especially in Shanghai, a city with so many foreigners. What’s more, I like it because my English teacher is kind and friendly to me.

　　In order to learn English well, I read English aloud every morning and listen to the teacher carefully in class. After class, I often watch English programmes and keep an English diary every day.

　　In a word, I love English and I will continue to learn it better.

　　Changes in myself

　　Everyone has changed a little or a lot since the day he came to the middle school. So have I. I am no longer a little girl because I am a middle school student now. I think that I have changed a lot. For example, I become more confident and friendly than ever before. I have made a lot of friends and we often have a good time. We help each other and share things together. And I also get rid of some of my bad habits. For example, I used to spend much time on computer games. Now I always go to the park for a walk and try to do more physical exercise. I think the changes are good and I will be better in the following days.

　　The Lantern Festival

　　My favourite festival is the Lantern Festival. The Lantern Festival is a traditional Chinese festival, which is on the 15th of the first month of the Chinese New Year. The festival marks the end of the celebrations of the Chinese New Year. Chinese started to celebrate the Lantern Festival from the Han Dynasty (206 BC—221 AD). Like most other Chinese festivals, there is also a story behind the festival.

　　This is a festival for people having fun. On the night of the festival, people go on streets with a variety of lanterns under the full moon, watching lions or dragon dancing, playing Chinese riddles and games, and lighting up firecrackers. There is really a lot of fun for the young and the old.

　　Everyone has his / her dream. The one who never gives up can achieve his / her goal in the end. Tom is a very good example. He was born in a poor family. His parents didn’t have enough money to pay for his study so that he couldn’t go to school. He was very sad, but nothing could stop him from studying. He kept on learning by himself at home. At last, he got high grades and entered his ideal college. Unfortunately, a terrible accident happened to his parents. During the time he was at college, he did part-time jobs for a living and took good care of his parents. Because he followed his dream all the time, he became the owner of a large farm successfully.

　　I have my own dream, too. I want to be a teacher to help the children in poor areas. From now on, I must work hard, correct my own shortcomings and improve myself. I will never give up my dream whenever facing difficulties.
