Unit11 Knives and forks are used for most western food.

1. serve sb. sth. = serve sth. for sb. 為某人端上 serve the people 為人民服務 (serve后不加for)

server n. 服務員 servant n. 仆人 service n. 服務

2. at the start of = at the beginning of 在……開始時 at the end of 在……結束時

3. be similar to 與……相似 be similar in 在某方面與……相似

4. be used for (doing) sth. 被用于(做)某事 be used as 被用作

be used by 被…使用 be used to do sth. 被用來做某事

used to do sth. 過去常常做某事 be/get used to doing sth. 習慣做某事

5. in one’s left / right 在某人的左手/右手 on one’s left/ right 在某人的左邊/ 右邊

6. serve oneself 自助 help oneself to sth. 隨便用…(食物/飲料)

7. cross adj. 生氣的同義詞為→angry

be cross with sb. 生某人的氣 be cross at /about sth. 因某事而生氣 cross v. 穿過,越過

8. offer sb. sth. = offer sth. to sb. 提供某人某物 offer to do sth. 主動提出做某事

9. be over 結束 adv. over prep. 在……上方(不接觸)，越過，超過

10. expect to do sth. 期待做某事 expect sb. to do sth. 期望某人做某事

expect +that從句預計/料想… expect + n./pron. 預計……可能發(fā)生；期望

11. as soon as 一……就(主將從現(xiàn))

12. finish doing sth. 結束/完成某事 eat up sth. 吃完；吃光

13. without prep.(介詞)，后接名詞/代詞/動名詞。

He went out without locking the door. 他沒鎖門就出去了。

We can’t finish the work without your help.=We can’t finish the work if you don’t help us.

without用于否定句，表示條件，意為“如果沒有”，可與if引導的條件狀語從句互換。

14. pick up 撿起；拾起來；拿起；得到； pick sb. up 接某人

15. be/get ready to do sth. 準備好做某事 be /get ready for sth. 為某事做準備

16. find it + 形容詞 + to do sth. I find it hard to learn maths well.

find + that + 賓語從句 I find that teachers are friendly to me here.

find +賓語 +賓補(形容詞/名詞/動詞ing) He found the boy crying over there.

17. email sb. 給某人寫郵件 email ab. at + 郵箱地址 …往…郵箱給某人發(fā)郵件

18. towards prep. 朝；向；對著。其后接名詞、代詞或動名詞。Tom ran towards the door.

19. dress up 穿上盛裝；喬裝打扮 dress up as +人打扮成 dress up in +衣服穿…
