　　Two young boys were spending the night at their grandparents. At bedtime, the two boys knelt beside their beds to say their prayers when the youngest one began praying at the top of his lungs.

　　兩個(gè)小男孩在奶奶家過(guò)平安夜，臨睡前，兩個(gè)小家伙跪在床邊禱告，弟弟便扯開(kāi)嗓子大喊出自己的愿望。

　　"I pray for a new bicycle...

　　我希望收到一輛自行車...

　　I pray for a new nintendo...

　　還有一部任天堂游戲機(jī)....

　　I pray for a new VCR..."

　　還有新的錄像機(jī)

　　His older brother leaned over and nudged the younger brother and said, "Why are you shouting your prayers? God isn't deaf." To which the little brother replied, "No, but Gramma is!"

　　It is said that there was a goodness man went broke his domain. He lived a hard life and he has three daughters. The three daughters were being married but he didn't have money to buy dower for his daughters. On the happy Chrismas Evethree girls went to bed early. They didn't know that their father was so worried. At last the Chrismas father decided to help them . He besprinkled gold through the stack and the gold fell into the socks of the man's daughters. They lived a happy life from then on... Chrismas socks was origined by this.

　　傳說(shuō)有個(gè)心地善良的沒(méi)落貴族，生活非常艱難。三個(gè)女兒快要出嫁了，他為沒(méi)有錢給她們買嫁妝而難過(guò)。喜慶的圣誕夜，三個(gè)姑娘早早地蜷在炕上睡覺(jué)了，剩下父親在長(zhǎng)吁短嘆。圣誕老人決定幫助他們。他在他們家的煙囪里撒下了許多金子，落進(jìn)姑娘們烤在火爐旁的長(zhǎng)統(tǒng)絲襪里。從此，他們過(guò)上了幸福而快樂(lè)的生活……圣誕節(jié)的襪子就這樣產(chǎn)生

　　Father Christmas is based on a real person, St. Nicholas, which explains his other name 'Santa Claus' which comes from the Dutch 'Sinterklaas'. Nicholas was a Christian leader from Myra (in modern-day Turkey) in the 4th century AD. He was very shy, and wanted to give money to poor people without them knowing about it. It is said that one day, he climbed the roof of a house and dropped a purse of money down the chimney. It landed in the stocking which a girl had put to dry by the fire! This may explain the belief that Father Christmas comes down the chimney and places gifts in children's stockings.

　　圣誕老人源于土耳其歷史上的一個(gè)真實(shí)人物，他的名字叫圣尼古拉斯，他的另一個(gè)名字'Santa Claus' 源于荷蘭語(yǔ)'Sinterklaas'。尼古拉斯是一個(gè)從米拉(現(xiàn)在的土耳其)來(lái)的基督教領(lǐng)袖。尼古拉斯很害羞，想給窮人贈(zèng)送物資又怕被窮人知道。傳說(shuō)，有一天，他從房頂?shù)臒焽枥锶忧敖o某戶人家，結(jié)果剛好扔進(jìn)了那位姑娘的襪子里，那個(gè)姑娘原本是把襪子掛在爐邊想烤干的。這或許就是大家相信圣誕老人從煙囪里把禮物放進(jìn)孩子的襪子里的緣由吧。

　　圣·尼古拉斯(Saint Nicholas)是圣誕老人原型(Santa Clause)，是土耳其歷史上真實(shí)存在的一位主教。公元前3世紀(jì)末，圣·尼古拉斯出生在地中海沿岸的潘特拉(Patara)。他雖出生在一個(gè)富裕人家，但從小心地善良，樂(lè)善好施，經(jīng)常救助窮人。圣·尼古拉斯喜歡以匿名的方式贈(zèng)送給當(dāng)?shù)馗F人各種禮物。在公元346年去世后，他被尊稱為圣人，其生前事跡后來(lái)演變成今天圣誕老人的傳說(shuō)。
