2017高考英語詞匯講解：end的短語及用法
1 . at the end 在末端。如：
At the end of the street you’ll find the hospital. 在街的盡頭，你可以找到那家醫(yī)院。
I think the film is a bit weak at the end. 我認為這部電影的末尾差一些。
2 . be at an end 結(jié)束，終結(jié)。如：
The war was at an end. 戰(zhàn)爭結(jié)束了。
Everything between them was at an end. 他們之間的一切都已結(jié)束。
3 . by the end of 到結(jié)束時，到末尾時。如：
We had studied English for three years by the end of last term. 到上期末， 我們就已學了三年英語了。
By the end of the chapter, you’ll have guessed the meaning of this word. 等你讀完這一章時，你就會猜出這個詞的意思了。
4 . come to an end 結(jié)束，完結(jié)。如：
The war came to an end in 1948. 戰(zhàn)爭于1948年結(jié)束。
The year was drawing to an end. 一年快結(jié)束了。
5 . end in sth 以某事結(jié)束或告終。如：
He will end in being punished. 他較終會受到懲罰。
The incident ended in a laugh. 這件事較后一笑了之。
The argument between the two men ended in a fight. 這兩個人爭吵到較后打了起來。
6 . end to end 頭并頭，尾并尾，首尾銜接。如：
Place these tables end to end. 把這些桌子一張接一張地放好。
7 . end up 結(jié)束，完事。如：
How does the story end up? 這個故事是怎樣結(jié)束的?
If you continue to steal, you’ll end up in prison. 你要是繼續(xù)行竊，你會坐牢的。
8 . in the end 較后，終于。如：
In the end she married a singer. 較后她嫁給了一個歌手。
He tried many times to pass the exam and in the end he succeeded. 他多次努力要考及格，較后終于成功了。
9 . make an end of sth 結(jié)束或除掉某事物。如：
Let us make an end of this foolish quarrel. 讓我們結(jié)束這無謂的爭吵吧。
We must make an end of this pile of rubbish. 我們得把這堆拉堆清除掉。

That car has caused me no end of worry. 那輛汽車使我傷透了腦筋。

不停地，連續(xù)地。如：
He sat there for hours on end. 他連續(xù)幾小時坐在那兒。
豎立，豎著。如：
Place the log on end. 把這根木頭豎著放。
12 . put an end to sth 結(jié)束某事。如：
The war was put an end to. 戰(zhàn)爭結(jié)束了。
We must put an end to this foolish behavior. 我們必須終止這種愚蠢的行為。
13 . without end 永遠的，沒有完結(jié)的。如：
They had trouble without end. 他們的麻煩無窮無盡。
